What is Junior Kindergarten?
Our YMCA Junior Kindergarten program provides a fun, welcoming and engaging environment where children can build confidence, develop independence and prepare for a successful transition to school.
Guided by the New Brunswick Curriculum Framework and the YMCA’s Playing to Learn curriculum, children learn through play, exploration and engaging group activities.
Children are introduced to early learning concepts such as letter recognition, counting, number recognition and name writing. The program also focuses on developing communication and problem-solving skills, independence, self-help skills and positive social connections.
Children participate in circle time, music and movement, group activities and hands-on learning experiences. On rotation each week, children will enjoy swimming, play climber activities and outdoor play.
Ages
For children born in 2022 who will be entering school in September 2027.
Children must be fully toilet trained.
Hours
Monday–Friday
8:00 AM–11:30 AM
The program runs from September through June and follows the ASD-W school calendar for closures.
