Community In Action: Meet Swati & Zak
For Zak and his family, the YMCA has been an important part of their lives for years. Zak first started attending daycare at the Y, and since then, the family
has continued to participate in various programs and classes. Over time, the Y has become much more than a place to stay active. It has become a space where they feel connected to their community. As Zak’s family shared, “The Y is such an important institution for our community.” They value how the Y brings children and youth together, giving them opportunities to build friendships, learn new sports, develop skills, and grow alongside one another.
When Zak learned to ride his bike this summer, his family saw an opportunity to turn this exciting milestone into something even more meaningful.
Having experienced firsthand the positive impact of the YMCA, they knew that if they wanted to give back to their community, the Y was the perfect place to start.
Participating in Cycle for Kids became a way to celebrate Zak’s new biking skills while teaching him an important lesson about helping others. For his family, it
was about showing Zak that something he loves doing can also make a difference in the lives of other children and families.
On October 24th, Zak and his family are putting that lesson into action by participating in YMCA Cycle for Kids! All funds raised will support the YMCA Youth
Impact Fund, helping remove financial barriers so more children and youth can access YMCA programs, develop new skills, build friendships, and experience the same sense of belonging that Zak and his family have come to love. Their story is a reminder that giving back doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, it starts with a bike, a little enthusiasm, and a desire to make your community a better place.
