Northside Wellness Specialist
YMCA of Fredericton is expanding to the North Side at 605 Cliffe Street. This new gym will include state of the art equipment with a focus on functional training, strength and conditioning. Position Overview The Wellness Specialist will work with members to orient them with the facility and fitness equipment, maintain the facility to a high standard, enroll new members and general supervision to ensure member safety. Duties- Offer all new users of the facility an orientation of the fitness of the fitness equipment
- Interacting with Members
- Perform daily safety and cleanliness inspections
- Cleaning of equipment and other cleaning duties as required
- Report maintenance and equipment issues
- Process new memberships and payments
- Opening & closing procedures
- Adherence to YMCA of Fredericton quality standards and health and safety guideline.
- Continuing education for safety, effectiveness and current trends
- Personal Training Certification an asset
- Kinesiology Student or Graduate an asset
- Personal experience with gym equipment use is required
- Customer Service skills
- Friendly, positive, motivating personality
- Relevant computer skills
- Workplace Standard First Aid with CPR & AED
- Must have a strong collaborative work ethic, ability to work as part of a team
- Experience and sensitivity in dealing with diverse youth and adult members, including people of different cultural and racial backgrounds, visible and invisible dimensions of diversity.

Swim Instructor

Location: YMCA of Fredericton, 570 York St, Fredericton, NB Salary: $16.25/hour Status: Part Time Employment Start Date: Must be able to start regularly scheduled shifts by September 11th Position Overview:- Delivers course content and examines participants following established YMCA criteria.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance. Secures a substitute if unable to cover scheduled shift.
- Develops and implements sequential weekly lesson plans.
- Recognizes participant learning styles and delivers content accordingly.
- Coaches and develops participants to meet success.
- Communicates (verbal and written) child’s progress to parents and supervisors.
- Maintains accurate, up to date weekly progress sheets and records for participants.
- Takes attendance, ensures participants are signed into and out of the program.
- Sets up and takes down recreational, program and other equipment as required – at the same time checking that equipment is safe and in good repair (reporting immediately all malfunctions and removing the damaged equipment immediately from circulation).
- Completes all documentation related to swim lessons (ie incident reports, attendance, progress reports, etc.).
- Actively participates in scheduled programs, meetings and special events.
- In collaboration with individual program members, program volunteers and YMCA program staff, assists and encourages program members to access additional appropriate programs offered at this location.
- Demonstrates appropriate behaviours in line with our mission, vision and values as reflected in our YMCA competencies; takes a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the association. Represents the YMCA and the association in a professional manner.
- Understands the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services.
- Understands the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Current certifications in the following Lifesaving Society awards: Bronze Cross, Workplace Standard First Aid & CPR-C.
- Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check
- Current YMCA or Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certification.
- Previous experience instructing swim lessons an asset.
- Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication(verbal & written) with members, staff and volunteers.
- Organizational skills.

POSITION OVERVIEW
Housekeeping, reporting to the Manager, Operations, are responsible for light cleaning duties to support quality program and services. The YMCA of Fredericton has 2 locations that require housekeeping services - a 60,000-square foot full accessible facility featuring a Wellness Centre, 25 meter pool, therapeutic pool, full gymnasium, fitness studio, cycling studio licensed childcare and outdoor playgrounds, 3 locker rooms and numerous classroom facilities located at 570 York St. The second location is a childcare facility located at 605 Cliffe St, inside the Willie O’Ree arena.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Housekeeping
- Service, clean, and supply locker rooms, public restrooms, etc.
- Laundering of towels.
- Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and/or vacuuming.
- Steam-clean or shampoo carpets.
- Gather and empty trash.
- Clean and polish fixtures.
- Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors.
- Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
- Set-up and take down of rooms in a timely manner.
- Follow SAM Standards
- Facility cleaning experience is an asset.
- A criminal record and vulnerable sector check is required as a condition of employment.
- Must be physically capable of performing a wide variety of physical tasks including walking, running, sitting, lifting, crouching, or kneeling for extended periods of time.
- Use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) will be required.
- Regularly works near moving mechanical parts.
- Noise level may be loud occasionally.
- Exposure to chemicals used in general cleaning and sterilization practices.
- Work hours include evenings and weekends.

Lifeguard

- Ensures adherence to all safety and life guarding procedures, and in the event of an emergency respond as trained by the Lifesaving Society and YMCA.
- Ensures that members, volunteers and other staff adhere to pool conduct guidelines and maintain order in their designated area as a proactive approach to ensuring safety and accident prevention.
- Administers swim assessments and swim tests.
- Set up and take down recreational, program and other equipment as required – at the same time checking that equipment is safe and in good repair (reporting immediately all malfunctions and removing the damaged equipment immediately from circulation).
- Completes all documentation related to the pool (ie incident reports, pool chemistry, etc.).
- Assists staff team in some cleaning duties related to pool and equipment.
- Current certifications in the following Lifesaving Society awards: National Lifeguard-Pool and Workplace Standard First Aid & CPR-C.
- Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check
- Previous experience in lifeguarding is an asset.
- WHMIS certification is an asset.
