The YMCA in Canada continues to deepen our commitment to truth and reconciliation in 2026 through ongoing learning, reflection, and action. In April, representatives from 32 YMCAs (including the YMCA of Fredericton) met at Camp Chief Hector for the inaugural Kananaskis Gathering, focused on strengthening Indigenous relationships and advancing Truth and Reconciliation. The event fostered shared learning and set the stage for continued action.

On National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, observed alongside Indigenous-led Orange Shirt Day, the YMCA reflects on the experiences of Indigenous children who were taken from their families and communities and sent to residential schools. We recognize the lasting impacts on Survivors, their families, and communities, and the healing that continues today. We remain committed to our reconciliation journey through ongoing learning, reflection, and action, and to continuing to build meaningful relationships with Indigenous Peoples and communities across Canada.

As an organization serving children and youth across Canada, the YMCA recognizes National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day as a time to reflect on our responsibility to create communities where every child matters. We remain committed to providing safe, supportive, and inclusive programs and services that help children and youth thrive.
