Volunteer - Power Up Mentor
The YMCA of Fredericton responds to critical social needs in the community and works to provide solutions. Located downtown Fredericton, we are a hub for children, youth and families to gather and grow together. Our programming is designed to allow everyone the opportunity to reach their full potential. By nurturing the potential of children, youth and adults, the YMCA connects people to life-building opportunities, to each other and enhances their quality of life. POSITION OVERVIEW: Mentors will report to Manager of Community Impact and will enjoy engaging with our youth.RESPONSIBILITIES and QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 19 years of age or older
- Active YMCA Member who uses the Wellness Center, Aquatics, Classes or enjoys drop-in activities in the gym.
- Meet with youth 1 on 1 on a regular basis (weekly, bi-weekly or monthly) and act as a Mentor within the YMCA building.
- OR attend youth rec drop-ins at the gym and form relationships with the youth who attend.
- Encourage proper facility etiquette and problem solve any issues with YMCA staff.
- Read, sign off and follow the YMCA Staff and Volunteer Guide and the Child Protection Policy and Procedures.
- Positive Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Education related to the humanities/social sciences or equivalent experience
- Should be person centered and trauma informed

Volunteers Required for the Following Age Categories:- Ages 12 to 15 – Facilitators to be a minimum of 16 years old.
- Ages 16 to 19 – Facilitators to be a minimum of 21 years old or 19 years old and engaged in related Post-Secondary Education.

Volunteer – Assistant Lifeguard

Location: YMCA of Fredericton, 570 York St, Fredericton, NB Status: Volunteer POSITION OVERVIEW Reporting to the Aquatics Manager, Volunteer Assistant Lifeguards will be responsible for providing service excellence in all Aquatic Programs and will ensure the safety and well-being of all participants in the pool and on the pool deck. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES Supervision & Program Delivery- Set up and take down program and other equipment as required; checking that equipment is safe and in good repair (reporting any malfunctions and removing damaged equipment from circulation).
- Model appropriate behaviours to fellow staff, volunteers and members in line with our Mission, Vision and Values and SAM 2.0 standards
- Adhere to all requirements as outlined in the Alert Manual for lifeguarding (e.g., scanning, rotations, vigilance, etc.)
- Participate in all mandatory trainings and attends all staff meetings in department and within the YMCA.
- Understands and integrates the value of philanthropy in both specific position and Association, and participate in the Annual Campaign and/or other fundraising events.
- 15 years of age or older
- Minimum of Bronze Cross certification, with National Lifeguard Service Award, Pool Option an asset
- Valid Workplace First Aid & CPR-C with AED
- YMCA, Red Cross, or Lifesaving Swim Instructor certification is an asset
- Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills
- Proven communication skills both verbal and written
- Employment is contingent on having a clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Hours: Varying Hours
- Must be physically capable of performing the physical tasks required for the program(s) being delivered.
- Noise level may be loud occasionally.
- May be required to respond to emergency situations within program(s) being delivered.

Volunteer - Assistant Swimming Instructor

Location: YMCA of Fredericton, 570 York St, Fredericton, NB Status: Volunteer POSITION OVERVIEW Reporting to the Aquatics Manager, the Assistant Swimming Instructor is responsible for ensuring a safe aquatic environment and delivering quality, values-based programming in the Aquatic area. Instructors will be responsible for providing service excellence in all Aquatic Programs and will ensure the safety and wellbeing of all participants in those programs CORE RESPONSIBILITIES Swimming Program Assistance- Assist in delivering well-planned skill sessions and programming for participants.
- Set up and take down program and other equipment as required; checking that equipment is safe and in good repair (reporting any malfunctions and removing damaged equipment from circulation).
- Model appropriate behaviours to fellow staff, volunteers and members in line with our Mission, Vision and Values and SAM 2.0 standards
- Ensure all safety and aquatic procedures are adhered to, and in the event of an emergency respond as trained by the Association.
- Adherence to quality standards and health and safety guidelines; and,
- Adherence to all SAM Standards throughout the building, specifically the pool(s) and locker rooms.
- 15 years of age or older
- Current Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard Pool Option
- Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills
- Employment is contingent on having a clean Criminal Record Check
- YMCA Assistant Swim Instructor or Swim Instructor an asset
