After-School Program

A Day at a Glance

Days here at the Y are full of fun, learning and physical activity. When in the classroom, children participate in science experiments, read alouds, arts and crafts, group and Y wide initiatives and so much more. We base our activities on the interests and input of the children, ensuring that we cover all core subject areas throughout the week. The Y is a great place for your child to create new friends, and continue to form bonds with children they know.

For more information, please see our YMCA of Fredericton Afterschool Handbook 24/25

Physical Activity

The YMCA believes in the power of physical activity and encouraging healthy lifestyles. We encourage children to develop their gross motor skills in the following areas:

Swim: We are lucky to have a swimming pool located in our facility! Each YMCA classroom has a free-swim time slot each week in the pool, with outside centres having a time slot each month. During this time, the children will continue to develop their confidence in the water.

Classroom educators are in the pool, and the pools are guarded by lifeguards.

Gym: During gym time the children have the option of participating in structured games, or to use it as a free space to run and play.

Sneakers are required for gym days.

Optimus Climb (Indoor Play Climber): Children will have designated times to play on our indoor play structure.

Outdoor Play: The children participate in a variety of outdoor learning experiences. Throughout each week, the children go on walks, play on the play structure, participate in sports and circle games, and much more. Each class has scheduled outside time throughout the week.

Nutrition

Snacks are required to be sent daily. On Wednesdays and full-days Lunch must be sent. For the health and safety of all children and staff who have life-threatening allergies, guardians are required to ensure lunches and snacks packed for children are 100% nut free. Families must alert the YMCA Staff of any allergies your child may have.
