Who’s who at the Y? Meet Kate Stewart

Some of you may know Kate Stewart as one of our trusted lifeguards around the pool at the YMCA. But we have some exciting news to share about Kate’s accomplishments. Kate will be representing our province of New Brunswick in this year’s Canada Games in the sport of volleyball. We are so excited and proud of Kate’s achievement. We caught up with Kate to find out more about this incredible opportunity.

“I’ve been connected to the Y since I was younger through kids camps, which I always enjoyed. I didn’t swim through the Y, but I was a competitive swimmer with our local FAST club for six years. During that time, a few of my swim teammates also played volleyball with the Reds club, and they encouraged me to try out with them. I made the team in grade 6 and quickly fell in love with the sport. Volleyball has been my main passion ever since and I can’t wait to represent New Brunswick at this year’s Canada Games.

Lifeguarding was always something I was interested in and decided that last summer I was going to get all of my certifications. Lifeguarding came naturally after being in the water so much. I did all my training through the Y and now work here as a lifeguard. It’s been a great way to build skills and stay involved in the community.”
