Jumping into Fitness at the YMCA!
Meet Miguel Garay
The buzz around the Wellness Centre in July was that Miguel Garay jumped for a continuous 38 minutes and 7 seconds! Miguel was participating in one of the Y’s monthly fitness challenges, and no one thought he could beat his nearest competitor. Nevertheless, after seven long and tiring hours of trying to break the record, Miguel finally reached his goal and impressed everyone at the Y!
We caught up with Miguel in the Wellness Centre by the squat rack to find out what keeps him motivated.
Miguel has only been a member of the YMCA of Fredericton for the past two months, but his ease with the equipment and his comraderies with fellow members make him seem like a longstanding fixture of the Y. Although he is easily found in the Wellness Centre, Miguel also loves to burn off some of his energy with friends in the Group Fitness classes and is keen to try out Zumba and yoga.
For Miguel, what sets the Y apart from other gyms is the sense of community at the YMCA of Fredericton. He loves the friendly and positive atmosphere and he finds that he has easily made friends at the Y, mostly because Miguel is keenly interested to learn about others. One aspect of the friendships that Miguel reflects upon is the fact that his friends add a little bit of positive pressure to keep him challenging himself. Miguel is going harder with his exercise regimen and he is achieving his fitness goals. This is evident through his remarkable achievement with the jump rope challenge!
