Volunteer – Power Up Mentor
The YMCA of Fredericton responds to critical social needs in the community and works to provide solutions. Located downtown Fredericton, we are a hub for children, youth and families to gather and grow together. Our programming is designed to allow everyone the opportunity to reach their full potential.
By nurturing the potential of children, youth and adults, the YMCA connects people to life-building opportunities, to each other and enhances their quality of life.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Mentors will report to Manager of Community Impact and will enjoy engaging with our youth.
RESPONSIBILITIES and QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 19 years of age or older
- Active YMCA Member who uses the Wellness Center, Aquatics, Classes or enjoys drop-in activities in the gym.
- Meet with youth 1 on 1 on a regular basis (weekly, bi-weekly or monthly) and act as a Mentor within the YMCA building.
- OR attend youth rec drop-ins at the gym and form relationships with the youth who attend.
- Encourage proper facility etiquette and problem solve any issues with YMCA staff.
- Read, sign off and follow the YMCA Staff and Volunteer Guide and the Child Protection Policy and Procedures.
- Positive Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Education related to the humanities/social sciences or equivalent experience
- Should be person centered and trauma informed
