|Dear Valued YMCA Member,
On behalf of the Fredericton YMCA team, I want to thank you for choosing to be a part of our YMCA. 2023 Has not gotten off to the start we had hoped for; with a continued delay in repairs for the Steam Room Equipment, and some gaps in our swimming schedule due to a shortage of available life guards. Everyone at the Y has been working diligently to address both issues and I am happy to provide some positive updates on both issues.
The proper steam room equipment has now been received by our contracted service provider and the steam rooms are back up and running. For those who hadn’t heard, we were sent the wrong parts which increased the down time. We are also seeking quotes for a full system replacement so as to avoid future failures.
Our aquatics department has managed to add lifeguards to ensure the pool is open for the open lane swims every day except Thursday. We will continue to seek new guards and alternative solutions to offer a full swim schedule as soon as possible. Our YMCA trains and certifies more guards than any other centre in the city, if you know anyone who is interested in working as a morning/ day-time life guard, please ask them to contact the aquatics department, or myself personally. We do offer both the Bronze Cross and National Lifeguard Service Certification courses free of charge as an incentive to attract more people to the profession.
Thank you all for your patience, understanding and feedback as we have been working through these two challenges. I always want to hear from you, with suggestions, criticism, compliments and ideas for improving our YMCA. We are all part of the Y, and the Y is a better place to be when we all work together sharing the values of Accountability, Respect, Inclusiveness, Caring and Fun.
I wish you all the best in your wellness journey in 2023.
