When I moved, from Toronto, and knew nobody, joining the YMCA gave me a sense of purpose, a way to make new friends and a chance encounter on the squash court with the man I would eventually marry. When my daughter first came to Canada from Ethiopia, she found a safe place in the YMCA Child Care program to transition to a new life, learn a new language and make her first friends.
